About Sabra

Sabra Booth is an MFA graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Before attending graduate school, she worked as an assistant to Tamarind-trained master printers at the Houston Fine Art Press. Later, she attained national recognition as a science exhibit designer for the Ginzbarg Nature Discovery Center in Bellaire, Texas.
In the early 2000s, Booth lived in New York for five years, teaching in public schools and working with several non-profit organizations, including the Lower East Side Printshop. Her early experiences on the beaches of South Florida, combined with her current exploration of the Texas landscape, continue to shape her artistic vision. Her studio practice offers interpretive observations of nature while addressing complex ecological concerns. Her research also explores the wide variety of gender expressions found in the natural world.
Working in a range of media—including book arts, printmaking, stop-motion animation, and watercolor—Booth draws inspiration from both her environment and her global experiences. Study-abroad travels in Japan and a Fulbright Mid-Career Professional Grant to Finland have had a significant impact on her work.
She was recently awarded The Alice Kleberg Reynolds Foundation Grant in partnership with the Alamo Colleges Foundation, as well as the Individual Artist Grants 2024 from the Department of Arts & Culture, City of San Antonio, for her project Herbal Traces: Medicinal Plants of South-Central Texas.
In 2023, Booth exhibited in On the Waterfront, A View from the Coast (Line), a collaborative project by Central Booking and the New-York Historical Society. As part of the exhibition, she participated in a panel discussion about the New York Harbor with museum curators, artists, and urban planners. That same year, she presented a solo exhibition, Tidemark: Coastal Explorations, at K Space Contemporary in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Her earlier project, Snow Shadows: Winter Storm Uri, funded by the 2022 Individual Artist Grants from the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture, was originally displayed at Artpace.
